Dumpster diving....

Post by Bloop2 »

Not that I really needed any more projects, but the wife told me that her best friend's brother was going to toss this in the dumpster, they were cleaning out an acreage that was sold. It was buried in the bush but covered with a tarp. It's complete, original and was told, it's yours, just get it outta here. Very considerate of the wife I think. It's a 74 Honda XL250. Would make a nice pit bike for Mid Ohio. Somehow I just couldn't see this bike disappear into a dumpster........

Cheers....Fred

Pump the tyres and light the fire(s)!!!!!

Cheap at twice the price too.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

Great bike Fred, one of Hondas better offerings for the time in that class. I know you will enjoy it once its running and a great pit bike too.
Its easy to see by your experience how many decent bikes disappear into dumpsters to be long forgotten.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

Strap a milk crate to the back and you've got an excellent swap meet mount for Mid-Ohio. Don't forget to scare up a tag for it. They've never stopped me but I've always had a license plate on anything I planned on riding around the grounds there.

Plates are not a problem, it's getting the piston to move up and down after sitting for 25 years, along with a few other items.

Funny, I just picked up one of these myself... a '75. Mine cost a couple hundred more than yours did but the engine isn't stuck. Thank goodness, I think 2-stroke engines are complicated enough :wink:

Have you had any luck finding parts for yours? I had the hardest time finding the battery wire (when they removed the battery they removed the pigtail as well) but finally found this guy who comes highly recommended! http://xlintperformance.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
