Scrap Cobra Shock Body

I'm looking for a shock body (just the piston and shaft - I don't need the covers or spring) for a MK1 Cobra T500 to experiment on. What I want to do is try and make it rebuildable. Before I destroy one of the two I have that are still reasonably usable but need re-chroming, I'd like to see if its even possible - and if so I'll detail out the 'how to' on the
Suzuki T> Resources web site.
If you have one you can donate to the cause, just PM me. I'll pay postage.

Ian,
I didn't disassemble the rear shocks of my Cobra yet, but I have made similar shocks rebuildable few years ago.
That particular set came off my 73" Yamaha TX750 twin. To open them, I removed that little bevel on the top of the shock body on lathe.
If I remember correctly, those steel shims on the top of the body are about 1mm in thickness. I had to cut approx. 90% into the shim to get the seal heads out. Finally I replaced the seal heads with modern ones found on ebay (like this:

Regards,
Argo

Argo - those look perfect and would save a heap of time - not to mention cost ! I've pulled down their catalogue but they don't list actual sizes, so what I may do is just give them a call and see if they can match up sizes. Hopefully they have something - I can get an adapter made to shim a smaller sized head, but bigger would be difficult make work.
Didn't know these were available - learn something every day !

Ian,
those seals heads were manufactured by All Balls:

Thanks - I did pull down their catalogue, and I have also sent them a note. Will likely call them in the next day or so. Now that I know what they are called, I see there are several distributors (Moose Racing, Race Tech etc.) - the trick will be finding one that can be made to fit the Cobra shock. The smallest of any I've seen with actual specs, is for a damper rod diameter of 12.5.mm which is still too big. At any rate, I'll see what I can find out.
