I've decided to follow another route so I'm putting my Strader system up for sale. Own a piece of history....Strader Engineering made legendary 3-1 systems for Suzuki Triples back in the 1970's I believe. The sound of this thing at speed is spine-chilling. You would think you are being chased by a pack of wailing banshees (not the Yamaha type). I bought the system brand new unused and I have not put many miles on it at all.
Comes with original fitting instructions and recommended main jets. No need to remove the main stand either.
PM me if interested. I can provide loads more pics if needed.
Here's a couple of videos so you can check it out and hear the sound and the fury:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFcMQvrL28k" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2siri4_zCIo" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The small print:
> Shipping not included in asking price (will ship only to US 50 ..... sorry!)
> Paypal is acceptable but will add 3% to price to cover fees

Man, I wish you had made this decision a few weeks ago. Before I bought my Higgspeeds. You shouldn't have the slightest problem with that sale. Why and what have you decided on ?

You know I really do like the Strader. It has great low-down grunt and of course the sound is amazing. It's also very compact and you can keep the main stand on. I just felt like trying something with different characteristics. So after test-riding Rassie's Threesome I got hooked on the Jemcos and here we are.
I've also got another project on the go (Yamaha RD400) and it makes me feel a bit better if I can sell something to fund the bling for that one.....I'm sure you know the feeling

Are chambers legal for street use in every state? Is every state different? What's the deal there? I've been going back and forth about whether or not I want to dump the weight of the stock exhaust and invest in some spannies but I like the look of the stock exhaust. Seeing your bike with the Jemcos on makes me rethink that... darn you for making me think!

Everything is legal in Vermont.

Nearly all states have laws against aftermarket exhausts on any vehicle. One law being Noise Ordinance. A lot of counties in some states also have emission tests. In those particular counties, if you can't pass emissions. You can't register or inspect that vehicle. In my state nearly all counties with the exception of a few, have emissions tests. My county does not. But, my county like most. Has a noise ordinance on exhausts. If I remember the number correctly, any exhaust over 95 db is illegal. That number pretty much exists across the entire U.S. Which nearly all modern aftermarket exhausts on any vehicle fit that illegal category. Up until this point, the local state police haven't given me any problems with my stock exhaust without baffles on my 550. Which is well over 95 db. I live within a 20 mile drive of the border of West Virginia. Which has no noise ordinance laws on exhausts or emissions. I just happen to do 90% of my riding in that state due to a lot better roads. Less traffic, better scenery, etc. I can avoid the possibility of being harassed locally. If I decide. California, New Jersey and New York are the worst. As far as this topic is concerned. Some states are more lenient. But, have their restrictions too. In many years of riding. I have learned. If you're not caught speeding or show boating. Police rarely harass motorcyclist for an exhaust. Unless you're being a clown, illegal in some other additional aspect or not following additional rules.

Not trying to be funny but if you ride a H-D are you exempt from noise ordinances?

Those Strader 3-into-1s definitely look nice.
I think the triples need 3-into-1 chambers + 4LS front brake to achieve maximum coolness.
Some of the laws are applied differently for vintage bikes.
Turn signals are a good example. In Pennsylvania you need turn signals to pass state inspection.
But my 69 T350 doesn't have turn signals and is exempt from that requirement.
Always on headlights is another example.
The local police stop the modern bikes that don't have headlights on during the daytime.

I knew you would understand, celt_rock. Everything is legal in Vermont, except in Chittenden County (or the Socialist Republic of Burlington).
Pearljam724 is pretty spot on in his remarks. Every state in the US has their own regulations, as there are very few national motor vehicle regulations (and those are usually regarding taxation and interstate commerce).
Typically, after a vehicle is beyond a certain age (and the bikes we all love are well past that point), they are only required to have the same safety equipment that was OEM at the time it was manufactured. No directional indicators on the bike when it was made? Don't need them now. My '71 has red lenses on the rear directionals. After that, they were amber from Suzuki. Legal for me to keep the red lenses, but not put them on a '73 T500.
Exhaust is a tricky subject. A vehicle may need to pass an emissions test, but usually is exempt from needing to take the test after 7-10 years old. Regarding noise, that may be regulated by the state or local municipality. I do not know of a state inspection that does more than check the integrity of a vehicle's exhaust (does it leak?).

In Oklahoma, there are no inspections or emission tests of any kind on 2 wheelers, 3 wheelers and 4 wheelers. There used to be inspections but that was abolished some 13 yeas ago. It's sort of a run what you brung state. There are some home made creations around town, but ever getting a title and tagging it is more trouble than it's worth. There at least 2000 hardleys in Tulsa county and I defy you to find one with mufflers. The noise is deafening, but all the posers think its cool. Any one of them can easily out loud my chambers.

Not exempt. Nearly all of those loud ass HD have aftermarket pipes. Some people have the idea that all HD are loud. Which isn't true, all of the loud ones have aftermarket pipes. Its kind of funny, that Harleys are pretty much accepted as being loud. Where no other type, make or model is accepted as being so. No vehicle is exempt from modern noise ordinance laws.

Your last sentence. In New Jersey and New York. It is well known, that state police have noise ordinance check points in the summer. They put a device at the end of your pipe. If it reads over the allowed decimals. You fail. Its quite common in those places. At these check points they also inspect DOT regulated helmets, signals, headlights, etc. Its very common today for motorcyclist to customize their bike. In some places of high traffic, law cracks down on those things.

My Sportster has stock exhaust. I don't want anybody to know I'm coming.
By the way, the Sportster was a "gift". Don't judge
