This stuff is not cheap but it works well

The secret to good storage is a constant temp room and low humidity filtered air.
Two strokes, its just that simple.

Suzsmonkeyallen, very nice looking GT, I have a long ways to go to see results like that but I do have the time to work at it. Really liked your photobucket too.
Yeadon_m, another excellent looking GT and where did you find those case savers :?: The only ones I've seen lately are for the GT750.

After picking up this 74GT in Kansas City, MO and on the return trip back to my home in New Mexico, I had 5 offer's to buy this 550 at gas stops/rest areas or other stops.
Four dudes riding Harleys at a gas station near White Sands, NM were all drooling at the mouth looking at the 550 in my truckbed, they all couldn't believe how nice it looked and all 4 at one time had owned either a 380/550 or the water-buffalo many many moons ago.
These GT's are very hard to find out here in the Southwest, I searched for over 7 months and the few I did find were already restored which didn't fit my needs but even those were located in California.
Thankfully living here in the Southwest I don't have to deal with a wet climate, we do have 4 seasons here with the Winters being on the mild side (I live right next to Albuquerque) and the Summers here are hot and dry, rainy season mostly in July to mid August with afternoon thunderstorms. Today's humidity was only 17% and most of the time it is even lower, it doesn't get over 20% that often.
There are Mountains Near by, about 25 miles from my Home, so after this GT is up and running and to my likes as far as road worthy, I am looking forward to taking a ride up in the mountains during the summer months to enjoy the coolness of the air and the sweet sound these 550's produce. I'm sure that will bring back allot of memories when I owned these 550's 40 years ago.
Till then though, I am looking forward to this restore and am taking my time with it, I'm in no hurry at all.
Please continue with the input, I really appreciate it.

The case savers / engine bars I picked up very cheap on ebay a year ago. The seller claimed they were Suzuki brand (or at least made for the bike specifically back in the day) so I was keen. They fitted with some light modifications to enable nicer positioning (they were too close to case bolts and to the exhausts as well as to the downpipes) and the chrome shop did a great job in removing the nasty silver powder coat and filling in the road rash (both sides!!).
Agree they can be hard to find, though 750 engine bars are in plentiful supply. The thing I particularly like about these 550 bars is that they are complete tubes and not filled in with half tubes the way some of the 750 bars are.
I don't expect them to actually do much saving if I am unfortunate enough to chuck the bike down the road. Its more about 'bling'!
Cheers,
Mike

Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.
