Broken oil line

Post by husky99 »

Have a single broken line on my Gt 380. Removed all the lines so I could get to it. Break is half way thru and is the only place it leaks.. Any suggestions on epoxy to repair it. The check valves all work. Have a spare but its not in as good of shape as mine (except for the one crack).

If I was to keep a broken line, I would sleeve it with clear tube that resists oil and heat and seals by having a small ID than the OD of the original pipe. Nothing much actually sticks to that OE plastic!

The lines are so low pressure that so long as the sleeve was resilient I see no reason why it should not last for years.

Cheers,
Mike

A short length of model airplane fuel line, but you will have to break it in two to get it on there.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

Id prefer to sleeve it with a piece of brass tubing, member "oldjapanesebikes" has effected some similar repairs so you should contact him about what glue to use.

Agreed. Chris (Coyote) first suggested the brass yube method, and somewhere on this board there are a load of photos showing what he did. I also wrote about it at this link:

These pics? Not brass. Started life as a 1" long section of 1/4" aluminum rod from the hardware store (had to buy 3'). Drilled through to the line ID. counter drilled 7/16 from each end to the line OD. Roughed up the line surface for 'tooth'. Used standard 15 minute epoxy applied to the line OD only so that none would squeegee into the through hole.
