oil leak, behind the counter shaft sprocket

Post by Eddie »

HI, I haven't been on here in a while, so hope you guys are all doing well, I have been riding my 74 gt750 on and off for a while now, occasionally thrashing it :wth: , I ended up racing a Harley, I know this is stupid but the guy kept on and on, I beat him off the line and pulled out ahead for a while then I guess his torque took over he started catching me, but then we had a stop light so technically I won!!!! :clap: , then I felt very bad for raging on my old buffalo :shock: , then I started worrying about all the stuff I could have done to the bike, so I got home and inspected stuff and I noticed a oil leak, which I had before but now after the race seems to leak more, anyway its from behind the counter shaft sprocket, I ordered the seal and I got a crap load of stuff, O-rings ,seals, etc.... so im wondering how difficult is it to replace this seal and O-rings and whatever else they sent me? im used to old Hondas that just have a seal (one seal) not multiple seals and O-rings? just wondering if this is a pain in the ass?

For the oil seals , you picked one of a couple that can be replaced without opening the engine and if you havent done it already a great time to clean up behind the front sprocket cover . Anyways remove the shifter pedal , front sprocket side cover , sprocket ..behind that is a cover that holds the seal thats held on with 4 screws ( you will need a proper screw driver or impact driver ) behind that is the O ring . As suggested clean up everything well before removing the bearing cover and have at it :up: what you will find should look like the lower left picture http://www.oldjapanesebikes.com/mraxl_G ... /sr24.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; .

Thanks a lot , I had ordered the seals, and they sent me at least 3 seals and one o-ring plus some really tiny seal , so I have about 5 seals and o rings all together, that's why I was asking, maybe they sent me the wrong stuff or two kits instead of one or something?, I have replaced pretty much everything that I can on the bike, except I have not rebuilt the motor yet, and I hope I don't have to for a while, it has 16 thousand original miles on it, I rebuilt the oil pump, replaced the octopus lines, rebuilt
The carbs, put electronic ignition on it, installed tapered roller bearings in the steering stem, the list goes on and on so now im just hoping she will last a long time without tearing the motor apart, but who knows, thanks for the help..

The very small oil seal is most likely for the clutch cover seal . #18 http://www.oldjapanesebikes.com/mraxl_G ... lutch.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
