Carbon build up inside the points cover

Post by Whit »

Anyone have any idea how a thick glob of carbon gets inside the points cover. Trying to attach the URL for the picture but not sure it is going to work. //Pat

I am 99% certain that the covers were originally made with an insulator. That's what's left of it. Not hard like carbon --- more of a gooey texture?
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

 Hi,it's the same stuff they use in car bodies,a sound deadner,I was wondering whether I still need it ? as the points have gone...so no more noise with the electronic ignition now fitted 8)

Coyote is right on the money. They come with a circle of sound deadener which is attached with a thick bitumastic glue and over time the insulator cracks up and falls of or turns to goo. It has not real purpose

It's either the remains of a dead rat or the bitumen like insulation that I recall mine had...
