I have 3 new pistons to go in my GT550. I have a pretty accurate kitchen scale so I decided to weigh them to see how much difference there is:
#1 = 179g
#2 = 174g
#3 = 180g
I think 6 grams is a lot of difference, but I don't know what is acceptable. If I were to grind #1 and #3 to match #2, where should I remove the stock? Doesn't this seem excessive to you guys, or am I worried about nothing?

Re: Piston weight difference
That IS quite a difference, but I wouldn't worry about it, probably every Suzi triple that left the factory did so with pistons of different weights.
Just my 10 cents, but I'd be more concerned that shaving weight from the pistons might introduce a weakness, compared with the effect of any weight differences.
Interesting to note those variances, though.

Re: Piston weight difference
I got the brilliant idea that the pins might have some variation so I could mix and match. No such luck. 2 came in at 37g and 1 at 36g. Nothing to gain there. I didn't check the bearings as they could be affected by the amount of grease on them.

Re: Piston weight difference
If nothing obvious I don't think it matters. Can you visually see why such a differences.?
Cranks aren't really balanced longitudinally that way. Some people will oversize just one cylinder's piston and seem to work OK.
