I've done those and I just eased them in with my fingers.

but more importantly.....make sure to stuff rags around the crank case openings so when one drops or goes flying it doesnt' end up down below.

How hard did you find it? I too will be doing this I hope quite soon. My circlips came from GT Reiner so I expect they'll be fine, even if my fingers aren't :-)
