This is certainly the opposite of a peaky two stroker, a long stroke single thumper

Hi,Yamaha thumpers bring good money in Australia,one like that would bring $10,000 dollars or so !! very nice indeed.

Hi,the Yamaha have a real "cult" following here...real average ones start at around $6,500...I have a friend who paid $7,000 for his 6 months ago,thinks he got a bargain ?
& he still had to take it home to wash it !!! By the way he's 78...not all that good health wise,but he loves the damm thing,as a lot of people do IF I was to show him the ad for this one on the Net....it could push him over "the edge"

I keep saying its what the respective buying public in a market will place on the value of a bike. It may be worth $10.000.00 in Oz where theres a big following, where as in other places with little or no interest in the same item, no one would even look at it.

Personally, I thought the bike was well worth the BIN price. I have seen a couple of those cafed out and they look very cool. I almost jumped on it till I remembered the sound. Back in the day, a friend had the dual terrain version. Can't remember what it was called. The XR 500 if I recall correctly. Anyway, there is just no way to make a thumper not sound like a big lawnmower.
How well did the Suzuki Savage sell? Apparently not too well. I only saw a couple of them when they were on the market. Haven't seen one in several years now. Was that 700?
That big lawnmower sound pertains to 4 stroke singles. 2 stroke singles don't sound that way - least wise my DT-1 didn't.

Dang! You did have to show me that! You jabcb, are the king of research. I don't know how you can play with all your bikes and still have time for so much researching. You seem to have an answer or several suggestions for other members dilemmas. GOOD JOB! So now I'm in the hunt for an old savage. I had no idea they are still being made. I never see them and haven't been at the dealer in a decade.

They are still making the Savage as the Boulevard S40. 652cc with about 26 hp at the rear wheel. They respond well to exhaust and carb changes and you could get to 45-50 hp. Engine is 652cc. You should be able to pick up a nice used one for under $2k. If you're looking for a fun "cafe" style bike, you could look at one of the newer Enfield 500's as they are not too bad. Not a thumper and not a Suzuki but they fixed a lot of the build issues on the new FI bikes and the Continental GT is pretty nice looking:
