Suzuki 2 Strokes

I'm looking for the correct torque specification for the large nut at the end of the crankshaft that sticks out through the points plate on a 750. I believe I have found it to be 36 lbs, if the nut is labeled as the crankshaft primary gear nut. Is this correct ?

The one on the end of the crank inside the points shaft, or the one on the points cam?

The one on the outside of the cam. Closest to the points cover. It's listed as part no. 20 under the points breaker fiche. I would add a picture. But, the damn site will not allow me to. Lol ! That problem has existed for a few weeks now. The nut that allows you to rotate the crank on the points side. If that nut is considered the crankshaft primary gear nut by name. Then I have the correct torque specification. Not sure, though. I want to remove the engine cover to polish it. Do you know if it's a left handed or regular thread direction ?

Hi,normal thread rotation,I've just had mine off recently...to undo I put bike into gear,had an assistant to hold on rear brake,one sharp hit on the spanner & it was loose..Reverse procedure to do up....that nut is not the end of the crankshaft...the points shaft is driven by the starter clutch which is located on the crankshaft,there is a warning in the manual NOT to turn the engine over with the points cam nut,(the one you've mentioned) unless all three spark plugs have been removed ie no compression/load on motor,or use the kick starter to rotate the engine ! There is a seal & O ring & a spacer on the points cam drive & two bearings,would be a good idea while you have things apart to look at these parts for wear...along with water pump plastic gear drive etc ?

Thanks, there's a listing for breaker cam nut also listed at the same 36 lbs. listed below. Under engine torque specifications. Stop. You don't need to undo that nut unless you want to replace the bearings inside the cover. That nut on the points cam is on a short shaft that is a slide on fit over the crank end (and starter gear).

To remove the side cover: Undo all the screws and pull off the cover. You will want to remove the points plate and will have to replace the side cover gasket, but leave the points cam in place. It stays in the cover.

I haven't taken it off yet. I may consider taking the nut off anyhow, as I'd like to replace it with something stainless. The original nut is fairly rusty. If I have one available, I'll replace it. If not, I'll do as you suggested and just remove the cover without removing the nut. Thanks, for the heads up. I appreciate that.
