Ram Air - Spark Plug Trim Rings

Post by Coyote »

Over the years Suzuki has used 2 different style boots and finally plain trim rings at the spark plug holes. All 3 are no longer available. Obsolete might be a better word. Has anyone found anything that works reasonably well to take place of the obsolete stuff? I had 3 of the ones in the photo, but traded them off for something else I needed. The ones like in the photo were shaped slightly differently from each other. They were actually angled to use in a particular hole. I have one and it appears to be the center one. Ideas?

Not seen alternatives, sorry. I like how they look, and when missing, the covers look incomplete to me. I have a set on each air cooled triple but they're like truffles - rare and expensive ! Took me patience to find. Mike

The headlight bucket grommet on the back that the main harness feeds through works and looks nice. Kind of a novelty item though. Unless, a boot or lead is cracked. I can't see any spark possibly arcing to the cover. Which is what that grommet is designed for. Harbor Freight also sells assortments of large grommets in a kit. I'd be willing to bet something out of that kit fits. Lowes, Home Depot, etc. also sell very large grommets.

PJ, you're right! Just installed one. Looks right at home. I don't think It was there for any kind of spark protection. Just looks unfinished if left bare. I'm gonna be ordering more parts from Partzilla I can pick new ones up for under $3 ea.

Glad, I could help. I agree that they look better installed. What did you end up having to do or pay to get your cylinders repaired ?

Bored, honed and chamfered all three. $135. Or as he put it, 45 bucks a hole.
