Update to 1970 T250II with excessive smoking

I re-checked the oil pump adjustment for about the 10 time and it was good. Removed the pipes and they had a lot of oil residue in them so I cleaned them out. I also bought some product that is supposed to soften and swell rear main seals on a car engine to eliminate oil leaks. This per a recommendation in my original posting. So I put that in the trans and topped the trans up completely full with ATF. right to the top of the fill hole. I move the machine around a bit in gear with plugs out to make sure it was mixed up good then I sat the bike aside for a week. Yesterday I pulled it out, drained off the excess oil from the trans, pulled the drain plugs from the motor and drained a little oil out of there. It was dirty so couldn't really tell if it was ATF or what, but looks like it might have been. Put the pipes back on and snugged them down and fired it up and went for a ride. Within a couple miles it was running virtually smoke free. First time in a long time. I rode it around probably 10 miles and it stayed consistent. Checked the plugs when I was done and they looked great. even, not oiled up, not running lean.
So I'll let it set another week and try it again when I take it on my vintage ride next sunday. I realize the proper way is to strip this thing down and rebuild the crank and change seals out. But this bike doesn't see a lot of miles on it as I basically only ride my vintage bikes on the weekends and this one shares that duty with several others. If this solution works and holds off the smoking for a couple years I'm fine with that.
Just posting back as an FYI for others who might be in the same situation as I was.
They main thing I was looking for on an additive was something that was not going to really modify the viscosity of the oil but just purely an additive that would soften up the seals. You have to read the product pretty carefully to determine that. There are a LOT of different products out there.

Ok, sorry this is late. Here is the stuff I used to re-condition those seals. It worked great. The guys I rode with this weekend all reported that the bike has never smoked less and was 10x better than the last ride. I could barely detect any blue haze behind me even under hard acceleration. First time in 2 years this thing has not killed it's share of skeeters. An amazing improvement.

in the other post (
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10699" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)
I was talking about a "seal reconditioner" which may not be the same as the "Rear Main Seal leak repair" product.
When i was looking into this at the time some rear main seal reapir products had additional additives that try to plug accessive gaps (evenutually disapear and need to redo) or soften the seals too much... products vary how they do that
I am not sure how Blue Devils product varies: Contact them.
This is the one I experimented with
http://store.gobluedevil.com/oil-stop-leak-49499/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The other similar product is
http://www.amazon.com/ATP-AT-205-Re-Sea ... B000NVW1LM" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
these two additives apear to be similar to what is in high mileage oils and are not suppose to goo up seals or apply stuff to fill gaps.
They literal made an old seal I had made it expand and soften some, more like a new seal .... not a melted seal. I believe the Suz twins center seals would benift only if it is the problem ( I think many are) I mention in the orig post....

As I read through the labels on the products, Blue Devil actually has 2 different products, this seamed like the one that would 'condition' the seals, not plug the gaps. That is what I was looking for.
I have over 100 miles on the bike and the clutch and all work just as before, no issues, accept no more smoke.

OK
Older stuff would make seals jelly.
These newer products apear to have showed up the same time as high mileage oils.
And I think the inner seal inner lip on the twins for reasons I said this stuff is just the trick.
Glad it worked!

Interesting thread, thanks for the update. Hope the T250 continues to be (relatively) smoke-free.
