Couple of silly? questioms - GT550

First off is the choke lever detent spring and ball. Mine are missing and the spring is obsolete. The ball is available but the spring is not. Anyone have a spare spring or one they could measure and post the OD and length? I'm going to break off a tooth pick for the length and go to the hardware store. I don't have a lot of hope though as it is really small.
Below is an exploded view of my stock 76 headlight. I don't have the now obsolete lamp. I have everything pictured except for the lamp itself. I need to know if anyone has fitted a standard H-4 halogen in this type of bracket. I seems like the extra cage just ahead of the bucket would be in the way, but I'm not sure The headlight pigtail on my harness is a standard small plastic connector like many others on the bike. It does not have the large 3 prong socket to fit a standard modern bulb so I would have to splice that in -- if I can even find one. Anyone done the conversion to H-4 on this type of bucket? Anyone have a stock 76 lamp? It appears to be a real shallow bulb.

GT550 & GT750 use same headlight.

Coyote,

Just measured one of mine: 13mm x 4.5mm OD.

I think you can get one here, look for compression spring:

Cheers,

4.5mm. That's the killer. Went to a hardware store yesterday and bought the smallest compression spring they had. It is .188 or 4.77mm. Won't quite go. I'm half tempted to open up the hole. Going to check another hardware store today. The problem in the states is nobody speaks metric let alone stock it.
4.5mm? Isn't that something like a mile? :?

The hole is quite a bit bigger than the OE spring so I'm pretty sure you can fit the 4.77mm! and if not, just ream it out a fraction of a mm

Too bad it's so long or it might actually be worth the price. We have all cut springs and we all know they don't work so hot once cut as you loose the flat end.
I went to Ace yesterday and bombed out again. 3/16 is the smallest they carry and is about .008 too large for he hole. I have mixed thoughts about opening the hole to .187 (3/16). That's the same diameter as the ball. The silliest things go obsolete Suzuki probably has a bushel basket full of those springs somewhere collecting dust.

Interesting find….
All-Rite Spring has an easy-to-use tool for designing springs.
http://www.allrite.com/inventory/design ... calculator

standard spring CO17620807008
has closed ends , 4.572mm OD , 14.1mm free length , 5.1mm solid height

They might have another spring that's even a better match.

DANG! I found the exact spring online for $3.50. Problem is minimum quantity is 6. Finding 5 others that need one is nearly impossible.
Perfect. .180 diameter, .500 or .563 overall length. .024 music wire. http://www.springsfast.com/stock-compre ... prings.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
