T250 Li'l Monster

Post by Tripleking »

I have had my 71 T250 for almost two years. I bought it from the owner of Metro Racing vintage clothing. He got it from someone who owed him money. When o bought it one coil had died and one turn signal was broken. After fixing what was wrong, the bike still ran poorly. I removed the heads an barrels and found that the skirt of the right piston was cracked and the cylinder scored. I decided to do a crank-up rebuild. I did new 1.0mm Wiseco pistons, new crank from Paul Miller Suzuki, all new bearings etc. I replaced the OEM carburetors with brand new Mikuni VM26s. The ports were cleaned up and compression raised a bit. I had the bike running well, but the jetting wasn't perfect. This weekend I have reached perfection. Installed a bigger 35 pilot jet and moved the needle clip to the center position and the nice smooth engine turned into a little beast. I took it out today to run some twisty roads with my son who rides a well-sorted1970 CB450 Cafe Racer. My little 250 kept up with his aggressive pace. The little monster and I surprised the heck out of my boy. The 250 as now risen to the top of my fleet. I now prefer it over my 89 750 Katana, 79 CB450T and 75 GT380. Who needs a big bike?

Good to hear of your story. Me and my brother both had t 250, s back in the 70, s -we often tried altering the settings on the needles but always found the central notch was best and the machines were flyers. We progressed to t500 s but the 500 was never as much fun as the 250.
