Replacement baffle for a Piper GT550

Folks,
I've just acquired (for fun) a Piper but the baffle is missing. I may be able to get one made because a pal has one. But, could I buy anybaffle that fits?
The tail pipe has 53mm ID and looks about 11" deep to the cone / tube inside.
Would it matter what baffle I fit provided it has similar ID? I can see some on ebay but only 8" long.
Also, says for four stroke yet the pic looks like a typical baffle.
Any ideas for me?
Thanks,
Mike

I'd suggest that you borrow your mate's baffle first to see if it is a long perforated tube or if it is in more that one section. Typical 2 stroke aftermarket baffles are a long straight perforated tube with a disk at each end. Some - Strader for example - have a long tube with the front end closed off and multiple larger holes instead of the usual perforations. Bassani uses two short baffle tubes stacked one behind the other to get more length and noise reduction.

Please take some pictures when you have the one out of your mate's bike so we can see the design.

Richard, will do. I see what you mean, by reference to the baffles in the stock small pipes.
Will update in due course.
Cheers, Mike

For what it's worth, the baffle in the Piper I had for my 380 was a simple perforated tube, with a mounting collar at one end. The tube had no 'flutes' or special hole configurations, it was just a piece of perforated sheet that had been rolled and spot-welded to make a tube.

The collar welded on one end was a simple pressed-metal affair, the same size as the ID of the tailpipe, and had a hole for a self-tapping screw to stop the baffle flying out. The other (inner) end of the baffle tube fitted snugly inside an internal collar welded inside the pipe.

Folks,

See this thread for a dry fit of a Piper on a GT550B and also baffle dimensions courtesy of Alan H :-)

Posting this way as I cannot be arsed to use Photobucket (I know, I'm lazy....).

Cheers,
Mike
