can i sandblast off the rusty pitted chrome cylinder bolts and powder coat? will it stand up to the heat?

Problem i could see also would be the powder coating coming off when you put a socket on the bolt ?

ya ive seen them on ebay...im way over my head in cost for this restoration as it stands. imagine that lol. just trying to find a cheaper alternative...sandblast the chrome off the caps and powdercoat just the caps? will it flake off when tightening?

Powder coat is hard. That also translates in to brittle. I seriously doubt you could torque all eleven down without chipping some off from the forces of the socket.

hmmm. ya your prolly right. i just hate to have this beautiful rebuilt motor with flaky old chrome head bolts right there in front. i just cant cough up another 2 hundred on bolts. shoot

sandblast them, and have them galvanized...anyone? why not

I took my H1 head bolts down to the plater thinking chrome but they said that zinc plating would be good. It was relatively inexpensive compared to chrome and they looked great.
edit - the zinc was silver colored, not the yellow/gold.

Yep.....was about to suggest zinc, we use it a lot, and you beat me to it. It's not chrome, but it's bright and looks factory. Be warned though....preparation is everything, and will govern the quality of the outcome. Once the old plating is removed, try and smooth out any dings and blemishes.
