Bent foot peg

I have a severely bent right foot peg. I need to torch heat it to straighten it out. I need to remove and re-install the rubber as it's going to get very hot. How (pray tell) do you / I remove the rubber?

 When I use to crash/fall off my little Suzuki A100 the rubber was damaged anyway ?
You could try soaking in soapy water, then wrap it in rag & try & wiggle it free with the help of vice grips...or the simple solution cut it off & buy a new one.... :( PS,for leverage, bolt it back on the bike, whilst trying to wiggle it free.
Cheers,
Roger

Dunk the rubber end in very hot / boiling water for 2min, then replace the water with new boiling water, 2 min more, and you'll find it pulls off easily. You will find you need a rag under your hand holding the metal end :-)

This way you can re-use the rubber.

If you are anyway to fit a new one, its still easier than cutting it off IMO, but this method works well to get the old or new one back on. Done it half a dozen times.

Cheers,
Mike

Thanks Mike. Will do! as you can see in the photo, the rubber is in great shape. That's why it doesn't merit a new one. Of course there is a scuff on the bevel and the underside, but not all that bad.
Honey -- mind if I cook this foot peg for a while? :wth:

Boiled it for 5 minutes -- no go. Added soap and boiled another 5. Still no go. Then I forced the tube on my WD-40 as far as I could and gave it a squirt while it was still very hot. Then it came off with some heavy duty twisting. Thanks again!

Like old style hard liquorice. You work and work at it until you feel your jaw's gonna lose, then ahh it starts to give.

Not sure you can get that candy any more. Makers probably got sued by someone!

Glad it worked out for you.
