The GT is done and what a project it was!! I now know what they mean by a nut and bolt restoration!! All the work is worth it when the engine first fires!!

I really like what you did with those rims.Very nice ride!! I am closing in on my own 76 550. What brand of chambers are those. I hate the idea of putting all that excess weight back on the bike. For all I know, the baffle plates are probably toast anyway.

Absolutely gorgeous. The gold 550J is the best looking of all the 550s I feel.
l had one in 1972 and there's one at home ready for rebuild when I've done the A. Unless I can get a decent exhaust for it, there will be a set of spannies on that one too.

Thanks for all the complements!! Coyote, I chose to do the rims like this because they had some rust on them. I spent so much $$ on re-chroming the rest of the parts that I had to come up with another idea. My brother came up with this idea and it turned out fantastic. Just black powder coat with a ring to match the tins. Of course new Buchanan spokes and polished out hubs help the bling. The chambers are from Higgspeed in the UK. Great sounding pipes. My intention was to use the stock but like you said when I started cleaning the stock the 2 bottom pipes were toast inside and could not be saved. So this was my alternative. I have been looking for a set of lowers but are near impossible to find in any good shape.
Alan H, I agree that the 72 is the coolest of all the 550's. I just love the gold color with the red Suzuki emblem. I also wanted the big mechanical front double hub.. Gold to me just scrams the '70's'.
This was a great project to do, I leaned that Suzuki makes a very good bike and pretty easy to work on. I would do another in a second!!

Congrats on the excellent restoration.
I think the maximum coolness for these bikes is with the 4LS brake + chambers.
