recieved 3 nos .5 over pistons and ring sets. i see the rings are tapered (keystone) as seen in manual. i also see in the manual picture that the grooves in the piston are also tapered to the same shape. well the ring grooves in these pistons appears square to the eye, not in the tapered shape. ??

Take a piece of chewing gum (chewed) and press it in the groove. Pull it out to be sure it's tapered. Alternately you can use clay or melt some candle wax. To my ancient eyes, it's hard to see the taper on the rings not to mention the pistons.
OR. You can install a ring and squeeze it. It won't go flush go if the groove in the piston is straight. Don't forget to align the ring over the pin.

The rings will go on only one way, if upside down taper will not fit piston.

the size of the rings is usually marked on the upper surface of the ring, and round the wrong way they will not push into the groove
