Hi all,
Just been thinking of the good old days back in the 70's when I used to ride my GT 250. I now have a restored GT 380 with Higgspeed chambers on and I am wondering how to reproduce the great smell of Castrol R. I always used to put a teaspoon full in a full tank of fuel then ride up the road, then turn round and ride back just to get a nose full of the fumes.
Doe's anyone know if you can still get it or if there is something similar.

I think you can still get it online from specialist oil stockists ...

A long time ago there was an oil in the states called Steen C. It had a great smell when burned. Probably much like your Castrol R. As a youngster I ran SteenC in my 2 stroke go-cart.

Cheers for the info,
I asked a chap in the pub who used to race 2 strokes and was told Castrol R40 is the same stuff and readily available, has anyone else heard of this oil.

Silkolene do one that is available for Silkolenestore.com (good people)

MAxima (927) do one and so do Klotz (BC-172) as did Blenzall and probably others. Castrol R was the classic Castor based oil though and how that company is called what it is.
In the UK Castrol would probably be easiest to get.
You could probably just buy a small bottle of Castor oil from Boots.
Just remember that it doesn't mix with regular oil and anything more than a trace will cause problems.
