If you mean item 3, it doesn't matter as it's not a 'proper' seal, just a thick rubber ring.
There shouldn't be any pressure to force oil up the cable, so a thick rubber ring will do the job.
If you have a different seal, then as the oil would try to climb the cable, so the lip/spring side to oil and flat side to 'clean' side - always.
Mine are all rubber ring type on J,K,A and M models.

No Alan. This is an actual seal --------- I think the first pic goes towards the motor?
