Good Morning,
I am looking to buy new sprockets for my GT500 project. Looking for good acceleration, and reasonable RPM ( 4500 ? ) at 100kph ( 60 MPH ). Does anyone have any experience.
The standard gearing is 15/33.
Appreciate any help
Trevor

Hi Trevor,I found this site ages ago, just what you need..."Google "gearing commander.com You can see what the different sprocket combinations will do,just load the gearing you want too use & the programm will show you the results ! Example 15/37 will give you a speed of 104 km at 4,500 rpm in 5th

Also dependent on tyre size you may have fitted ? You current gearing should be around 117 km at the same rpm
Cheers,
Roger

Hi Roger,
Really appreciate the reply. I went to site, very cleverly designed. However the more a tried different gearing the more confused I got !!!!! ( being a Kiwi doesn't help ).
Because I am yet to ride the bike, I have nothing to gauge how good or bad the standard gearing is. Viewing you-tube, it appears to be quite high geared, to allow a higher top speed at lower revs. I also assume there is "somewhere" is the rev range the vibrations are numbingly bad, so want to avoid this zone at 100 kph. So I would want to sacrifice top speed for more brisk acceleration.
I was really hoping someone that been thought the process, and could offer a specific gearing option that seemed to work better than standard.
As am extra note the bike is going to run Jemco chambers and pod filters.
Thanks Trevor

Different animal I know, but be careful not to gear too low. Stock for my bike is 16/40. I was looking for the hole shot so I started out at 15/40 just one tooth smaller and what it did was make first gear useless. I went up to a stock 16 front and stayed there. Kinda the best of both worlds.

Change the front to 14 tooth OR the rear to 35 or 36. either gives much better acceleration and at 4500 revs gives around 104 KPH.
With either combination you don't have to slip the clutch anywhere near as much to get off to a good start.

Hi Parksie,
Thanks for the help. I am struggling to find a 14T sprocket, do you have any suggestion where I could source one?
Thanks Trevor

Glad too see that my post about "gearing commander" works in the "real World" as well as in a virtual one !!!
Cheers,

Wemoto in England may have alternatives. It seems to be about the only plsce to get a stock rear sprocket.
