Suzuki 2 Strokes

My old posts are beat to death so I thought I'd start a new one.
Got the GT550 put back together and RUNNING -- ON ALL 3!. I let it warm up good and started tweaking the air screws. All 3 are happier at one turn out than the book 1 1/2. Idle is smoother, throttle response is instant and best of all it returns to idle much better. There are pods on it right now and I will be putting the stock air box back on. It may have more choking effect and I may need to open the air screws then.
So now a question. Only the right pipe smokes. It continues to smoke after shut down. Gentle wisps of smoke for a couple of minutes. I would think dirty baffle, but it doesn't get very hot that far back. All that may change when I take it out on a good run. Time will tell, but what's your guess right now?
Gonna go run it again. I'm stoked! As Emeril would say -- Oh Yeah Babe.

I let it cool down cold. Started and ran it for 30 seconds. All pipes are hot. Yes yes yes yes Finally one that runs in the middle! And now thanks to Robiet, I have stock bars for it. It's been a good day. Would have been even better if my lower back wasn't out.

Hadn't run it since Saturday. I thought I'd check the center cylinder one more time before I put the air box back on. Fired her up and the center got hot right away. Right running and smoking as usual. Left pipe stone cold. Adjusted the air screw in and out and it did not pick up. Pulled the plug and it was clean with just a light film of oil. Put in a new plug anyway and she took right off. Can a barely used clean plug be fouled? Guess I'll wait a couple of days and try again. I need to get this thing stable before I put the air box back on. Can't get out anyway as the city is redoing our street.

Good to hear someone have success with this bike. I just got my first restoration project home from grandpa's barn. A 1974 GT550. I have never done a restoration, and I hope that this doesn't eat me alive. Ha ha!
I got a clymer manual on order and I'm hoping to use that as my guide. If you have any websites or any sort of pointers I would be most appreciative. Thanks!

My only advice is don't take the Clymer manual too seriously. It has many many errors that have never been corrected. Your better off asking here
When you clean out the tank (that's imperative) you need to apply your attention to the petcock as well.There is a 4 hole gasket that has probably dried up, but are still available. Also note when you get serious about starting it up, there is a vacuum line that needs to be on as well as the fuel line. The vacuum line comes off the center carb. A short line up to the bracket and from the bracket to the petcock..
