Suzuki 2 Strokes

Hi can anyone! recommend a good genuine supplier of a piston kit for a GT550 i cant seem to find anything apart from the crap from japan on ebay which i can confirm does not fit as the piston recess is not deep enough to allow the ring to fully retract into the piston on fitting

yes i see they are available but i was hoping not to spend over £500.00 on 3 pistons

The ones you've tried...were they from Cruzinimage? Seems strange if so, they tend to get good reviews on the whole. Are you saying the ring grooves weren't deep enough on yours? That's not good at all.

If you have any contacts Stateside, try Partzilla. They do post to the UK but they charge quite a bit and you'll get duty to pay. Sent as a low value, pre-owned "gift" they'll probably work out about half the price of buying in the UK. Responsibility for VAT and duty is solely down to the recipient, not the sender.

Yes they were from cruizinimage,no the grooves are not deep enough, i have mailed them back but no response yet

I have a set of un-used crusinimage GT550 pistons & rings and they look very good. I didn't use them in the end for I managed to assemble a set of correct Suzuki pistons from three different sellers! The only issue I noticed with the crusin pistons was that the piston pin fit was a little looser than the Suzuki, and I know too little about whether that matters. Others have however used them and been happy, so I don't know why your rings are problematic. Perhaps they're not the correct rings? they are keystone and of course the taper faces upwards.
Good luck, Suzuki certainly made things tough with 550 engine parts by mucking about with piston weights, which in different batches vary substantially. If you buy loose pistons, you must check the weights as they differ by >10g from light to heavy, though if you get the same type, their weights are as close as you'd expect. It suggests they made different pistons entirely for different model years or cylinder liner types (cast iron, nikasil). Then there's the issue of do you or do you not have the 3 little drilled holes vertically on the intake face of the piston, which I guess is intended to aid lube on the narrow intake bridge of the nikasil, 7-port motors. Whew.
