Hey fellas,

I'm working on what pipes I should buy for my rebuild coming up. I know I'm going to change the carbs to Mikuni 34mm (unless there is a better option), and will have the motor hopped up a bit.

So Jemco or Titan performance? I know the UK pipes will be prettier. The cost will be about the same with the shipping. The Jemcos don't seem to be stainless, but are one piece instead of having seals and down pipe.

Also any Gas tank and seats links would be great.

I will end up doing some laps with this bike maybe a vintage race.

If you intend to take it to the track I would recommend that you look for race pipes. An important factor will be ground clearance, not many road pipes are the best for this.

Please elaborate. Anyone you would reccomend? I'm leaning to the Jemco Exhaust at this time. I'm thinking even though they are not as nice looking as the Titan performance expansion chambers. they may produce more power? Any other leads on expansion chambers would be great. How much more ground clearance can be had from these bikes?

This isn't happening for maybe a year or less I'm going to pull the motor and start the build then send off the motor with new carbs and chambers at the same time unless I can find a builder in phoenix.

maybe I missed it, but I don't see what bike you are talking about? I would assume since you are considering Titan performance that its a T500?

Anyway, I had Higgspeed chambers on my T500 build. They are excellent quality, sound amazing and are fully polished stainless. When I was doing my build, I chose to not consider Titan because of the two piece design. I also chose to ignore jemco because they are made from mild steel. you would need to get them nickel plated or ceramic coated, which will add to the cost. Not to mention, anytime you do a coating or plating, there is risk that it will eventually come off. With the Higgspeed chambers, they are polished stainless. They will never corrode and can be easily polished again as needed.

I was so happy with my T500 higgspeed chambers that I am currently having them build another set for my GT185.

in terms of your other question about tanks, I was able to easily fit an XS750 tank on mine with a few modifications. The frame rails are pretty narrow so I bet almost any tank would work fine. I had a CB200T tank mocked up on my titan frame too, and that would have worked with a few mods.

Hi Repeater...here it is from the horses mouth. Our pipes are the prettiest, and the welding quality is the best, and yes I would like you to buy our pipes, BUT, if you are going to track this bike, as Geoff has already said, (and he is very experienced with 500 race machines), you need a pipe designed for the track. Unless you ride like Miss Daisy, you will ground pipes that run along the sides of the bike...you definitely need them under the engine. Do not buy anything else. When I had stock pipes, I used to hit them on the road, and now I have my own chambers, I've hit them too. Unfortunately I can't recommend a brand for you, maybe Geoff can?...or alternatively get a pipe maker to specail order you a set.

Ps..We also sell stainless headers, which if preferred can be welded in place, but to be honest, being able to remove the single bolt retaining the chamber, can be quite convenient.

Following up on Titan Performance's comments on ground clearance here is a photo of a trial fit I did with a set of pipes from Mick Abbey Racing (UK).



There is a lot of jigging around required, and of course you need to be a competent welder to put them all together. The photo below is a race pipe kit sold by Cor Geraets (Belgium) for comparison.
