you've got a live wire going to the coils

from the kill switch there are 2 wires - an orange and an orange/white. the orange/white goes to the ignition coils. put a multimeter on 12v, ignition off, kill switch off, try the orange/white at the coils and an earth. if it shows 12v then somwhere there's a red wire [permanently live] connected in there somewhere. if you have no kill switch, just test the live at the coils and earth. again, if you have 12v then there's a red wire in the circuit again. hope this makes sense?
cheers, dd.

Sound good well done - just as it should be!

Do you have a wiring diagram for the T250?
If not, the wiring diagram is similar to the GT250B wiring diagram, except the T250 does not have a kill switch or voltage regulator.

Does your bike have the stock rectifier? Stock wiring?
If your bike has modified wiring, an aftermarket rectifier or a modern rectifier/regulator, then the alternator output may connect to the electrical system after the ignition switch.
The bike would then behave as expect when the motor isn’t running.
But with the motor running, turning the ignition switch to “off” would isolate the battery and allow the motor to continue to run off of alternator output.
