1975 GT185 rebuild - parts required

Hey all,
I am looking to start sourcing the parts required for the rebuild of my 75 GT185, I've also found someone to actually rebuild the crank and someone to rebore.

I started a new thread for this so if anyone in future needs the info it's all here.

The problem I am having is interpreting which parts are required based on the diagram supplied at http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/S ... parts.html

This is what I THINK I need:
2x connecting rods - I've already got these on order
2x small end bearings - These have been ordered also
2x big end bearings - As have these
4x big end thrust washers - part no:09160-22010 - part 8 in diagram
2x Piston pins
4x Piston circlips
2x 1.5 oversized pistons with accompanying rings

Now where I am getting confused is the bearings and seals as it is a little hard to follow the diagram because the part numbers aren't listed below the diagram

I THINK I need:
2x Main bearings, one for the RH side and one for the center - part 18 on the diagram - 09269-25011
2x Crank seals one for either side - 09283-25048 - parts 24 on the diagram
1x Left hand side bearing - Part 17 on the diagram - I can't find the part number for this but I found an item on ebay advertised as the part with the number 09262-25036
1x Centre oil seal - part 24 on the diagram - 09289-37001
And the other center bearing - part 19 on the diagram - I can't find any info on this bearing

Is there anything I have missed off this list and can anyone shed any lights on part 19 bearing and part 17 bearing?

Also, Im not sure what to do about the crank pins. I have not been able to find any info on where to purchase replacements.

Thanks,
Jarrad

Surely someone here must have some information on what's required. I've read the gt125 also uses the same parts. I cannot go any further with my my rebuild until I find out which parts I need.

Hi,
I don't have the detailed info on parts you need, but for what its worth you seem to be doing a pretty good job :-)

One reason for non reply, I guess, is that your request is a little un-specific, eg do you intend to rebuild the crank only, in which case you may be there on parts (sure there will be a set of gaskets and O-rings needed also)? or, gearbox / clutch? are you going at the cycle parts like forks, brakes and steering etc? The narrower the question, I think the easier to get a useful reply!

Always liked the GT185s. I want to wish you good luck with it, and please keep us posted, pictures are nice,
Cheers,

Hey Yeadon,
Thanks for the reply, I intend on restoring the whole bike however the only part I am really stuck on is the internals of the crank, eg the part numbers for the inner bearings and seals as the parts diagrams I have been looking at list the crank assembly as a whole and not the specific part numbers that make up the assembly.

Allan, funny you should mention that, I emailed discountbikespares yesterday. I've emailed before and not received a response so hopefully I do this time, they seem to have most the parts I need.

Dillon's also lists lots of crank parts & offers good discounts. They list the parts you need as available, except for part 19.
http://www.powersportspro.com/pages/Oem ... 6021100004

They show part 19 as originally having part # 09262-30025, & then being updated to part # 09262-30026
Just checked eBay - no parts listing under the original and two bearings listed under the later part #.
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid= ... &_from=R40

Its worth checking eBay for NOS parts when they are still available from Suzuki. Prices may be better but often aren't.

Oh jabcb those guys are really good, even cheaper that partzilla. Problem is they don't ship to Australia. I emailed to see if they could make an exception though. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the heads up.

Let us know if it doesn't work out. There are some other dealer websites & one of them might ship to Australia.

Thanks mate, turns out they use mail forwarding to ship internationally so all should be well.

On another note, while I am doing the crank on this bike I am wondering if it's worth replacing the bearings in the transmission, for another $50 or so I could have the piece of mind knowing that the tranny has fresh bearings.

What typically needs to be replaced in the tranny apart from bearings?

In my opinion transmission bearings dont need replacing unless they happened to get rusty or the transmission was run dry without oil . Unless there is some sort of damage to the teeth of the gears or slight possible bent shift fork the transmissions are pretty much inspect and replace in the case .

Turns out at some point in this engines life the chain as ripped through the case and it has been patched up with what looks like JB weld. I also found chunks of crankcase sitting in the bottom half of the case. I'm wondering whether I should just give up and scrap the project as I can imagine a replacement case could be hard to come by.

Crisis averted, I managed to source a good condition crankcase to replace the broken one so project is back on track.

When it comes to reboring the sleeves to suit my 1.5 OS pistons is it necessary to remove the sleeves from the cylinders? I thought they could be bored with the sleeves intact but the company doing the boring for me has said I need to provide the sleeves on their own.

Can anyone confirm this?
