Thanks for your help on my previous posts. this community is indispensable for good advise. I thought I'd finally post what i rebuilt and have been working on for the past few weeks. Only problem i have now is something up with the kickstarter as it's flying around like crazy. Perhaps a misplaced spring. Also, getting some major spitting coming from the exhaust manifolds. The thing i hate about slip on pipes. I'm running 117.5 mains and no other mods (also a newtronic ignition) any thoughts on how to remedy that mess I'm all eyes.

Nice project as far as the kick start lever it sounds like the return spring behind the clutch side cover is not in place http://www.oldjapanesebikes.com/mraxl_G ... /sr41.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; . For the pipes clean the oil off where they connect and use some hi temp RTV silicone , also if you want to keep the natural finish on your Jemco's but not rusting get some Mop n Glow floor finish and wipe on a couple of good coats .

Two strokes tend to get a bit oily and Dave's suggestion is a good way to keep it inside and out of sight. The other thing to think about is whether there might be too much oil in the motor due to a leaking check valve.

When they leak they allow more oil into the bottom end that they are designed to and that can make for a lot of smoke. There's no quick way to test them - they really have to be removed, but an alternative is to remove the SRIS valves from the crankcase and let the motor drain. Replace them and leave it for a week and then repeat. If one or more cylinders accumulated a lot of oil during that period, you have a leaky valve.

Hey guys, I did use the mop n glo method and so far it's been working pretty good. Everybody tells me the engine looks better than the rest of the bike but upholstery and paint will come soon. I was also thinking of upgrading the front end but we'll see in time. Right now it needs minor stuff here and there.

About the RTV on the pipe joint. you're talking about putting some rtv on the manifold? so it's on the "slip in" area of the joint? or under the bolted on manifold? All 3 pipes are squirting a little. It's not major and I'm just wiping it off after riding, definitely nothing like my brothers rz350. but I would still like to avoid getting the polished up engine all gunky so soon.

My chambers (not Jemco) had exactly the same problem until Iused the high temp RTV trick. Clean the exhaust port and the pipe ends. Mop on the RTV on the pipe OD and a little on the face. assemble and let it cure for 24 hours. That cured mine.

Ultra Gray Gasket Sealant works fantastic as far as stopping oil from leaking around the exhaust port flanges. Get on repositioning the kick lever, those shiny air box covers are very expensive to replace. You have the engine cases polished up quite well.
