Hi Guy's,

bit of a long shot, but does anyone know how to refurb, the rubber vibration dampers that are fitted between the fins of the barrel and cylinder head.
I have set about the restoration of my SB200, bead blasted the head and barrel, and crankcases, then etch primed and top coated with simoniz 5 wheels enamel paint, but the rubbers have gone hard, and lost their look, what can be done to the rubber to restore that new look ?

Soak them in a bleach solution for a couple of hours to bring the colour back.
It works for the two stroke oil tank as well.
Wear gloves and eye protection when you do that and don't splash it on your clothes or they'll go all spotty!!!

you are the dude, it does indeed work, tried on one of the bigger blocks, think I might have had the solution a bit strong, it only took 10 mins and the water and bleach had turned black, took the rubber out and it's like new again, and gone softer.

many thanks.

this is by far the best forum ever.

That's good.
If I needed to get a rise. I'd say 'Woo, I'll try it now know it works!!'
But I actually did try it so I know it does. Pleased to know it worked for you too.
Just looked through the 'puter and it appears that I didn't take pictures of my bleach bath techniques.
I'll do it when I start the 550A resto in the new year and the K is running.

I omitted those pucks when I rebuilt my 550. They are kind of pointless when running chambers.

Like you say, you won't hear the slight buzz of fin resonance when the expansion chambers are on song!!

It is something though the sound that rings off the fins without the rubber dampeners .
