1974 GT750 - Mild resto to put her back on the road

Hi everyone.

My first post here after finding you all via Google and becoming a member. I hope to be able to contribute a bit to the forum over time and I apologise up front for getting on here and asking for help/advice in my first post.

So I recently picked up a 74 waterbottle that is a US import (I'm in Australia) with around 14,000 miles on the clock. I raced exactly this model bike as my first road race bike back in the 80's when I picked up a 72 and a registered 74 for only $500!!!

Anyway after racing that for a couple of years I sold it on but the bug has never left me .. I still race vintage motorcross today and have always wanted another big bore 2 stroke waterbottle.

So getting to my questions. The bike is very very original but when I start it 2 stroke oil pours out of the drain hole in the oil pump housing. Now I assume this will be a split oil line or some sort of seal gone but wanted to ask if anyone else has had a similar experience?

Hi, & welcome,yes it sounds like a line problem,or the pump is not bolted down properly...if as you say it is "pouring" out the hole in the oil pump cover.Any oil running from there should be investigated,there is a crankcase vent under that cover,if the right hand crankshaft seal is gone,gearbox oil will be expelled out the breather...gathers in the little well below the pump & runs out the hole,in extreme cases gets blown back onto the rear tyre !!
Are you sure it's two stroke oil & not gearbox oil,what colour is it ?
PS Sorry mate just re read your post...about having a "Waterbottle" previously,you'd be aware of most of what I mentioned...preaching to the converted
As you can see,I'm in Sydney with a '76 "A" model,had her for just on 12 years,my third GT750 in 30 something years !

Mine did that when the carbs flooded the cases and filled the trans with gas, drain and replace correct amount first and if it still does it it's bad crank seals.
