Hi new here. Great site learning allot. Just bought a Magenta (pink) 1974 T500. It has not run in 10 + years. It has 13k Miles.
I have been looking to get her started the right way.
The Main concern is the Seals. I read on this forum that it is good to fill the engine intake ports with 50/50 Gas / Smoke oil. Just poor in till full?
The previous owner rebuilt the carbs at one time. Would I need new float bowl gaskets if I pull the bowl to clean it? I was going to do the soak for a few days in Pine-sol method.
I pulled the Exhaust and wanted to clean all the crud / oil in the chamber, but wasn't sure about soaking or burning any packing inside? I removed the baffle. Is there anything else removable? I didn't see any “packing” Besides burning or having it dipped what is the preferred method?
Thanks

Congratulations, it is a fun bike. Not quite sure what you mean by filling the intake ports with gas/oil, but I really wouldn't do that. If you want to start it before taking some things apart, first make sure you've got good spark on both plugs (if not, you're going to have to do some trouble shooting, but there is lots of good advice on this forum about that). These Suzuki's use an oil pump which not only provides lubrication to the pistons, but there are lines that go directly into the crankcase area which lubes the main bearings, so it's probably not a good idea to premix the gas & oil. If you open up the float bowls, you don't necessarily need new gaskets, but it they are pretty old they may stick and then tear when you open them, so then you do need new ones. For cleaning the exhausts, I've used either regular gas or mineral spirits with good results. Try searching the forums, there's some info on that too I think.

There is no packing on these baffles and there is nothing else to remove from the exhaust. I have used a propane blow torch to burn the crud off and have also cleaned them using my sand blasting cabinet. I prefer the sandblaster as they come out like new.Repeater wrote:I pulled the Exhaust and wanted to clean all the crud / oil in the chamber, but wasn't sure about soaking or burning any packing inside?
