Has anyone seen a good looking seat for a GT750? The old Guilliari seat looked pretty good, but they don't come up very often.
TR750 style looks good with a long tank, but so far not much works with a stock tank.
I'm happy with the extended Street tracker seat on the Phat Trakka but for this Cafe Racer project I'm not seeing much that looks good. Omar has that huge long boat like seat which is fine for a two up seat but so far no good, cafe race seats. I and currently splitting and stretching a seat that came on a CB160 project and was way too large for that bike and equally too small on a GT.
Thanks for that input. I have a GT550 seat and of course it is too narrow to work on a 750 frame. I did move the hinges on the 550 seat base to work on a 750 frame but it's just not quite going to work.
The Phat Trakka used a Hotwingglass GL100 seat which I stretched at the hump and added a tool box inside the hump. Well made and not too thick. It was my number one choice for this bike, but I wanted it to look more Cafe Racer ie a completely different look - different era. Almost like a 72/3 TR750 seat.
What I did yesterday was to take the generic (may have been hot wing seat) and split it down the middle and made three steel straps to hold the halves in place which I carved the rear to clear the stock fender. It is starting to look right.
I bought a seat from him for my KZ a few years ago and it's holding up well. Might give you some ideas.
They do have a good selection of custom seats
I think they ship from Vietnam but on the KZ sites there's nothing but good things said about them, plus he'll "lightly" customize your order as well. I ordered the cafe racer seat for my KZ and ended up making a fiberglass cowl over the passenger portion for 2-up riding. A little firm but the stitching is solid.
They are not a bad looking seat. I have pictures of those already downloaded.
So far we have:
OMAR - maybe out of business - with that long seat
Vietnam Steel seat bases - OK. Somewhat like an early Corbin but on steel.
Guiliari (sp?) if/when they pop up
Street tracker seats
That tends to suggest why so few GT's have non-standard seats even when the bike is modified - unless the degree of modification is huge. I wonder if that's because GT750 owners are much more conservative or if the aftermarket saw them as so big and heavy that no one in their right minds would try to make one a little more sporting.
