ignition switch gt750 4wire-6wire?

on my 550, my switch burned out. i bought an aftermarket switch.the old switch had 6 wires hooked up-4 in a connector and 2(org,red) loose, the new switch only has the 4 in the connector.
me and my buddy did some trouble shooting and i spliced the extra orange into the orange in the connector and capped the extra red.

i know that red means hot and orange means hot when the key is on.

so now im trying to repair the gt750. the guy i bought it from did some terrible wiring and has some cheap pepboys switch in there. im pulling it apart and adding a used 72 gt750 switch from ebay in there. i have 4 wires going into the old switch and 6 wires needed for the new switch.

i cant seem to find the extra orange and red wire needed. where do those wires come from?

the diagrams i have gotten off of this site only account for the 4 wires in the connector. why is that?

i was reading about the wire haRNESS RESTORATIONs . that is something i should probably be doing. but it seems some of the original harness is jacked up beyond recognition.

I know on my 75 550 and 76 750 they are only 4 wire connectors. I'm pretty sure all of them are.

The GT550B wiring diagram is here: download/file.php?id=824
It shows an ignition switch with 6 wires that has 2 orange wires & 2 red wires.

This GT750B wiring diagram shows an ignition switch with 4 wires: download/file.php?id=823

They had two simple ways to reduce voltage drops: a thicker wire, or two wires. Don't know why they did both.

What you did works. (connecting the 2 orange wires together & capping the extra red)
But you will get a somewhat smaller voltage drop by connecting the 2 orange wires together & the 2 red wires together.

where are the two extra wires coming from? can i just pull them from any red and orange? id like to connect them to where they come from on the stock harness. but i'll settle for anything for now, i reckon.

The two red wires trace back to the battery -- both go to the connector just before the fuse.
One of the red wires also goes to the rectifier.

One of the orange wires goes to the lights on/off switch. The other to everything else. So you need both.

Not sure what you are asking.
But I probably would solder another red wire on to the ignition switch red wire & do the same with an orange wire. Then attach connectors to the new wires. This would convert a 4-wire switch to a 6-wire switch. The rest of the wiring could then left be unmodified.

This wiring diagram might help. Not in English but the colors make it easier to follow.
