Adjust RPM on Suzuki T 250 and 'oil question'

Hello.

I have a thought that the 'idle' RPM is a little bit high on my T250, and wonder if I should try to adjust it down to lower RPM.

Now its a bit above 2000 RPM when running idle, and I wonder how low it is recommended to have it...

I checked on the 'oil meter' on the right side, and the level seems to be rather low. Can I refill with regular twostroke MC oil, or is it recommended to change oil and fill it up to right level.

And here comes the really dumb question: There is also an oil filling option on the motorblock, on the right side. Little black plug to screw off. What purpose has that? What kind of oil is used there?

Any tip is appreciated.

Thanks
Rune

Hi Rune,

Does the oil tank still have the oil in it from when you bought the bike? If the bike is running OK, just buy a bottle of motorcycle 2-stroke oil that is suitable for oil injection systems. The oil specification you need is API TC, Jaso FC or FD, and ISO-L-EGD. There are many brands of good oil - Castrol, Putoline, Silkolene, Rock Oil, Motul, even Yamalube :) All of these are plenty good enough for 1970s machines. See the Oil Forum in the index for more information than you will ever need ....

The oil filler on the engine is for the gearbox. You should use a basic 4-stroke motorcycle oil in that, NOT 2-stroke oil. If you have not changed it yet, I would change it soon. There is a drain bolt under the engine, let the oil drain out, replace the bolt and then add the correct quantity of oil - 1.2 litres.

There is a scan of the factory Suzuki manual here, which also tells you how to adjust the carbs: http://www.oldjapanesebikes.com/mraxl_G ... index.html

Thanks for good info.

I will look at it.

Right now I have another problem... the T250 just went dead today... no way it will start... seems like there are no electric signal anywhere.... no spark... its just dead.

I am wondering if the generator might be broken...

Do you have a voltmeter or multimeter? Check the battery voltage - it may be low on charge, or dead. You need a good battery to run these bikes. Even if the generator is dead, you can ride for 2 hours on a fully charged battery.

Hello

The voltage is about 13 Volts on the battery.

I will check the voltage from the alternator later today.
