Suzuki 2 Strokes

Suzuki shop manuals show the use of the piston holder tool, part # 09910-20113, to hold the connecting rod so that you can torque down the crank drive gear nut & alternator rotor bolt.

Am working on the GT550 cafe build.
Service Bulletin GT-8 specifies the updated drive gear nut torque spec: 94 to 108 ft-lb.
The shop manual specifies the alternator rotor bolt torque spec: 6.6 to 10 ft-lb.
And the clutch sleeve hub nut torque spec: 36 to 43 ft-lb.

What do you guys do in lieu of using the unobtainable piston holder tool? And for the clutch nut?

+1 on the clutch basket holder tool. I have one too thanks to previous recommendation from guys on here. It is very easy to use and not expensive.

From service bulletin Tools-4, the unobtainable piston holder tool is referred to as the “connecting rod stopper”. Part # 09910-20113 is 120mm long & was superseded by part # 09910-20114, which is 160mm long.

The 101 ft-lb is for the belleville spring washer, which is what I have.

Not exactly sure what you guys on the other side of the pond mean by "wadding".

I spent a good bit of time chasing down an NLA tool only to learn that the old-school pros are using an old rag between the clutch & drive gear.

Yep "wadding" just means old rag's stuffed in the drive gear. It's what I used to do when I couldn't afford the clutch holding tool!
I think you will find that the NLA piston holding tool was what was used before the far superior clutch holder was invented.
