The tach drive gear is driven by the points cam shaft. The tach drive gear & sleeve looks like this:
I removed the gear & sleeve from the clutch cover prior to having the clutch cover polished & clear coated.
The sleeve has the flat surface & hole that are shown in the pic. It has another hole that isn’t shown in the pic — that hole is opposite to the flat surface.
The sleeve is held in place with a screw.
Its not clear how the sleeve is oriented in the clutch cover. Anyone know?

Question answered. I bought a used clutch cover to make sure.
The assembly is positioned by a screw located behind the points. The screw has an unthreaded section on the end that engages the sleeve hole that is furthest from the drive gear.
