Burnt out sparkplugs.

My T500 has a habit of burning out the right pug. I'll put in a new plug, and it burns out. i can get in a couple rides, or a 1/4 mile and it burns out. What gives? is it the coil? If I can get this resolved, I can finally ride with minimal worry.

Do you mean it actually burns the tip up or it fouls and quits running.

It just quits working. The tip looks fine.

when the plug stops firing, it looks to me like a clean burning plug, and it is wet with fuel. I'll try to get pic posted.

i'd throw a little of your spark plug budget at a new(used) coil. also i've heard, but never experienced, that it's the first sign of a weak charging system. anyone?

I'd make sure the charging system is up to spec then swap the coils around to confirm that that right side ignition coil is in fact the problem.

Thanks for the info. I'll check the charging system, and track down a coil. How do you guys feel about running an electronic ignition in the old smokers? I haven't anything about weather they're worth the money or are problematic.

I love my electronic ignition in my Gt550. Set it and forget it....

Someone here had a post of an electronic ignition / charging (alternator) kit from Europe. If you are serious about making this a daily rider, I would put my money on this system. From previous posts, if the battery is not up enough, the right side coil quits. I am lucky(?) that my GT500 has a OEM electronic iggy and fires both plugs at the same time. Plus the ignition runs off the magneto and not the battery.

The iggy links for the T500 were at the bottom of this post:

I've got electronic on Pinky(750) and stock ignition on my 550. Both work, but you have to fiddle with the stock option to keep it running right. The electronic is like jaybob says set and forget. The only advantage a I see of stock ignition over electronic is when the electronic dies, it is truly dead, call the truck and trailer. If points quit you can usually get them working again good enough to limp home.

I got myself a used coil, put it in, and the same thing happens. The right plug stops firing. What else can I do? I'm going mental.

I understand that T500s will drop the right cylinder if the battery is nearly dead. How old is your battery?

I bought the battery new at the beginning of the summer.
