Eliminating the oil injection system

Post by CowboyX »

I am working on reviving my gt 380. I have heard a few people say that the oil system is complex, prone to fail, and bikes run just fine without it. Is it worth while to have the oil system or can it really be eliminated. If so then how? What is the proper premix? Pictures would be awesome.

I would have offered that the people making those comments are clueless, and probably still think Elvis is alive somewhere. :D I consider the injection system to actually be quite simple, is possibly the most reliable component on the vehicle and was designed to deliver the required amount of oil for the engine based on load/RPM.

But that is just my opinion ! 8)

+1 on that.
The Suzuki triples are designed to move oil AWAY from main/big ends etc. when it has been used and premix is actually kept away from places where oil is needed because of this. If you enjoy rebuilding engines regularly then go ahead and use premix - which makes engines run weak as well - but otherwise use the tried and well tested method of positive oil lubrication as Suzuki designed it as everyone with sense does.
Do a search for GT380 and look on other forums too. People who run these bikes do not use premix.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

 100% in agreement with Ian & Alan, you'd have to have rocks in you head,to run premix!!!
Suzuki's Posi-Force / Cylinder Crankshaft Injection System can not be bettered !!!

Bad idea. The oil injection system on these 2 strokes carry oil to the crank bearings. Running pre-mix without the oil injection will fry the main bearings.
If it doesn't fit, force it! If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyhow!

On the Kawasaki H1 you must remove the three oil slingers on the crank to run premix, otherwise the main and big end needle bearings will be starved. And on the early models the conrods should be replaced with slotted rods (big end). Can't remember if the Suzuki cranks have oil slingers too, or slotted/non-slotted rods. The Suzuki lube system is more or less bullet proof so there's no reason to run premix as pointed out by others. The Kawasaki system is not bad either, but is not as solid (for example the cable is attached to the pump by only a small tab bent over the cable end that will weaken more and more as you disturb it, and the check valves is a vulnerable part) so some choose to run the Kawi's on premix. On the Suzuki, stay with the pump system!

Just a little Kaw vs. Suz chime-in

I wonder if Cowboy X isn't confusing the oil pump with the SRIS system. If so, that system can be eliminated and these old smokers DO run fine without it. But not the oil pump with t 6 feed oil system. That is a no no.
Yamaha's on the other hand can run without the oil pump and premix can be used. The Yamaha oil pumps just had 2 lines that go directly to the intake manifold (s) - essentially running premix without the hassle. Their cranks were lubricated by a completely different engine design.
So Cowboy X, the oil pump on Suzuki's must be retained and working correctly or you WILL fry the motor.
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

Whoever is telling you to remove the oil injection system is grossly misinformed. All my 5 2-strokes have thier injection intact. If you are going down a long hill with the throttle closed you get no oil supplied to the motor. Injection is based on speed and load. It does not have this limitation. Oil is injected to the crank directly. The pumps are lubricated by thier own oil. The only issues in the past I have seen are previous owners that have messed with it. The previous owner of my gt750 removed it. I bought it with a blown crank. I wonder why. Ok i'm off my soapbox

(all but the bmw are running oil injection...its a 4 stroke.)

Wow. Message received. Great advice. Quite the can I opened but the message is clear. Suzuki did the homework. Don't re-invent the wheel. Thanks.

So that would be via the Kettle Club then, or from Suzuki ? 8)
