Ok, I need some help. I have a 1971 T-500 that I believe is getting TOO much fuel. This problem came about last spring when I rode it without cleaning the carbs and it did not seem to run like it used to. I cleaned the carbs and found the pilot jets plugged up. After cleaning the carbs, IT RAN WORSE. super wet plugs. It has K&N pods on the carbs which I think would give the carbs more air than the stock air cleaner.
So I plugged up the pilot jets last year with tooth picks and it ran better but not like it did 2 seasons ago. This season I replaced points, checked the timing, cleaned out the pilot jets, replaced the needle and seats. I also made sure the choke circuit was working properly and not giving it this extra fuel.
When I get it running it is like trying to keep it running while the choke is still on. If I take off down the street, it breaks up real bad and tries to clear out. Once in a while it does clear out and sound like it should, but if I let off the throttle, it stalls. I pull the plugs and they are very wet.
Any ideas????..............Cubby

Where do we start?......does this year have the 32 or 34 carb? Have you got the slides the right way round?.....cut outs to the rear?

THANK YOU TITAN PERFORMANCE!!!!!!!
It made total sense.... I tore both carbs apart at the same time last year and the slides got switched. I am the biggest believer in these vehicle specific forums. I belong to a Yamaha snowmobile forum, a vintage Spanish dirt bike forum and a vintage snowmobile forum and just like this one, they are super helpful to these wild questions. I have helped many newbies on these forums and I just knew when I joined this one, someone would help me figure out the problem. Thanks again brother.............Cubby

Great news Cubby.....you are not the first, nor will you be the last. Because the slides will only go in one way, it doesn't occur to you that they may be in the wrong carbs..........
