My left side cylinder was acting like it was misfiring just a bit, some additional smoke but not much. I changed the plug and open up the left side. I found a thin film of oil/residue in the points area (I don't think this is unusual or is it). I did note that there is no gasket on this side cover, which somehow got passed me before. I dabbed it off and ran a piece of paper between the points to clean them. When I fired it up, the right side did not start and now I can't get it to kick over. When I kick it, the motor acts sorta like it's flooded on right side, it coughs and wheezes and kicks back. Battery is charged, I am getting spark. Any suggestions on how to get this one running again. Funny thing, last month I would have taken this bike to California it was so dependable
My first guess would be go back to the points side and check it over again , make sure its all connected up and open the points contacts to make sure a shred of paper didnt stick there . You didnt happen to have left the petcock on prime as that can possibly flood the engine ? Oh .. nice looking 500 too

Yes, I did check that and everything seems to be set up and ready, it just won't start.
Remove plugs and kick it over fast to clear any surplus fuel (throttle wide open)
Then replace the plugs, throttle wide open, no choke and kick with the ignition on.
With throttle wide open, gas velocity is so low that it does not pull in any more fuel. When it fires, hold teh throttle open until revs pick up and slowly back it down
I have to confess, I had the plug wires crossed. I checked that, I thought, but when I got down on the ground and watch the sparks coming off the points, I realized I had them crossed. After that, I kicked it 3 times and she fired right up. Uggg, thanks for all your support,,,
I did that once, indirectly, on a 550. The points wires don't have a block connector but bullets. Poor attention coupled to low light and vision that isn't what it once was allowed me to swap two bullets. Frustrating hunt, a sudden aha, 3 kicks (and embarrassment) and off it went again )

Some of the T-series twins have the coils with the HT leads facing the front & others facing the rear.
(The official Suzuki pics on suzukicycles.org shows both.)
In one coil orientation the HT leads are crossed & the other they are not.
Its an easy mistake to make if you have a few twins.
Another easy mistake is to forget to connect the battery.
Some of the twins will start easily & run ok without the battery.
The T250/T350 use the battery as the voltage regulator, so you learn of your mistake when the lights burn out.
The T500 has a voltage regulator but I don't know if it has enough capacity to protect the lights if the battery is disconnected.
