GT185 electical gremlin....cutting out now and then.

Post by joeloss1 »

Bike runs fine but electrics all cut out now and then. When this happens....a jiggling of positive wire from battery always brings it back to life. I've checked all the connections in photo including fuse/connection....and it all looks good. Often bike will ride fine for a mile or two and then just cut out all of a sudden at a junction or when it comes to a stop. Most weird.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

John (in sunny Worthing).

I would try another fuse holder, I had several that had poor connections even though didn't look bad,I replaced them with modern auto style. It sounds like a loose connection issue,is the battery connection good?
One reason it could be shutting off at stop, if you loose connection from battery and running on generator output, when you slow down, the generator output is switched off by the voltage regulator to prevent battery discharge. And if you don't have battery power it will loose all power.
Does the charge light in the tach come on at any point?

Thanks for info. Charge light doesn't come on. All seems normal until cut-out. I will try better fuse-holder.....it does look a bit flimsy. John.

A few questions, What type battery are you using? AGM? or conventional? What is the voltage when running and charging? Does the charge light come on when engine not running?
