Just Jokin with Ya Moo.I may get one of those for the H1/H2 if I ever decide to go get it and decide what I'm gonna do with it. That'll be quite a far Piece off on down the road.I have to Install some Reeds I bought off of Some Feller.
Hang me from the Tree of Shame.Damn! I forgot the Rope.
Thanks Chris. Yes. I cut the filler cap out and fitted the feller cap and surrounding metal from an 07 GSXR. It took some metal bashing to get the two to work together. I also had to weld in a drain/overflow pipe for the recessed filler cap, so there is a drain tube that appears in the middle of the tunnel to drain away rain or spills.
The aftermarket filler cap has an interesting ball valve to allow air in, but I have yet to find out how well that works. It is possible that I'll have to make some design changes in there.
The seat started out as a flat track seat for a Goldwing I believe. It came from Gordon Lamb off his gray M model and was modified slightly to stretch the hump and then I built in a tool box/lunch box/glove box/whatever. The seat pad is foam from that seat, shaved down to half thickness sitting on a carbon/glass/carbon sandwich base.
I would have preferred to make it more narrow, but it matches the tank so well, I decided to leave it.
I'm getting back up off the floor after looking at the Phat Trakka. Stunning! We need more pics....many more pics. Youre just teasing us. Come on....show us the full monte.
Thanks Kevin,
There is so much not finished yet that's not close to its debut. I managed to polish the carbon fiber side covers and while they are far from perfect, they are acceptable for now.
On the left side, I worked out a bracket arrangement and fixed that today. Now I need to come up with a good bracket arrangement for the right side (they are not symmetrical).
Here's a the motor............
Ignition cover is yet to be manufactured. Maybe I'll skin it in C/F to hide the ugliness. That was taken before the frame side cover was complete.
Dave,
If I moved any slower that glacier would have passed me a while ago. I have been planning C/F side covers for a looooong time and the original idea was to make a mold out of the modified covers (they are 40-50mm forward and 25mm thinner).
Eventually I came to the realization that making a mold and pulling out one, and only 1, pai of covers wasn't really the smartest way to do it, so I wrapped/skinned them with 3 layers of CF and West systems epoxy. Once they dried, I scuffed them back and added an extra coat of clear epoxy and when that set I rubbed them down and buffed them. CF is so nice to use compared to glass but it sure ain't cheap. The plan was to vacuum bag it in the mold for lighter & thinner covers, but I decided to start the easy way.
The surface is a little wavy and has many minor imperfections, but it's supposed to look like a track bike (from a distance) not a show bike, so I can live with that.
That pushed the weight up to around 120 grams a side and with a mold that could have been right around 100. Since the rest of the bike weights about a ton, I don't think that is the limiting factor. These bikes are ridiculously heavy for no good reason.
Dave,
I'm only gloating because I managed to finally get one small thing done. And let's not talk about the reed valve project that I started on even longer ago.
And this bike is supposed to be low budget using up parts I already had left over from that other one. Don't tell anyone OK.
its looking great ,cant wait to see it in its glory .
its like a rolf harris flash back .
a bit at a time and
"can you guess what it is yet??".
did you extend the kicker as last time you said it was a bugger to kick over.?
cheers mark
She will never be pretty but hoping she will be a fun ride.
