Post by dewman »

Hi newbie question. Have a 1976 Suzuki gt500 was wondering if any other smaller fuel tanks will fit . The stock tanks in ruff shape and a few cheep smaller ones on Ebay. Thanks

An earlier T500 tank should fit.

By that I mean the front rubber mounts should be the same.

What you will need to do is remove the rear mounting hardware to reveal the single mounting hole, then purchase the mounting cushion, and associated spacer and bolt and you're good to go.

Couple of things to consider is that the seat might not look 'right' with a T tank and make sure the T tank has a decent petcock as the T and GT ones aren't interchangeable and a good T one can be costly.

The front mounting lugs for the tanks on the T500 and the GT500 are in a different position on the frame. You will need to cut the lugs off and weld them back on in the different position.
