Yes, I'm pretty sure that you are seeing an entire late md clutch with starter clutch on the back.
Yes, I agree its expensive but I am not seeing many advertised.
What problem do you have?

Bloody hell! To quote a phrase that I'm well known for.....

Haar much?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? K'inell!!!!

Ant the postage from Germany to the US will be high as a complete clutch is heavy.
Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

They show up from time to time on US eBay.
Last one went for about $100 with shipping.

Its likely that a few more will be listed on US eBay between now & next spring.

got the bike running, with electric start for the first time, and after a few starts, it ground to a halt in 2nd. could get it freed up to neutral, started again, went 1st to 2nd, where it stopped again. now the kicker doesn't move anything with the clutch engaged or not. it already sounded a bit weird at idle in neutral (a little knock) so I'm assuming the starter thing is done.

@jabcb: that's just the clutch. I'm looking for the starter clutch that was changed a year after my model's year.

The kick starter and the electric starter are not associated in any way. A blown starter clutch would not lock up the motor. Sounds to me like you have serious problems in the tranny, or maybe you have broken some teeth off the primary gear. Only a partial clutch tear down will tell.
Other thoughts guys?
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left.

Thanks for that - oops!

I have another pre mod GT550 engine. With that and the parts I got from that auction I hope to get one running bike. Sunday I'll dig in and see what's really going on!
