68 cobra float bowl gaskets

Post by cbxdreamer »

Can any of you tell me where I can find float bowl gaskets for a 1968 cobra. In the states would be my first choice. Thanks, Andy

The short answer is that you can't - they sometimes pop up on eBay, but not often. I suspect making your own is your only viable option going forward. That's what I plan to do unless someone else steps forward to produce pattern ones.. 8)

That's a great idea. Are the '68 gaskets different from the '69, '70 and so on?

My son works as a programmer in a laser cutting shop.. Wont work as the lasers run waaay too hot. Gaskets are die cut, much like the balsa wood in the models you used to build. 8)

I stand corrected Dave. Different animal. Son's shop cuts sheet metal. Aluminum, Stainless and mild steel. Anything from 24 gauge thru 3/4". Thicker than that gets machined on a CNC water jet. All of it is precession. Lately they have been making some wing skins for Cesna.

Indeed they are - one year only version. The later style (1969 MK2 and onwards) are readily available - just not the 1968 MK1 'round' bowl version. The MK1 style also used an o-ring in addition to the gasket eh ? 8)

Ian,
Do you know the original part number for the gaskets? Andy

Parts lists are readily available on line eh ? :D There are two gaskets on these that sandwich a plate (15259-15010) between the bowl and the carburettor body - the lower one on the bowl itself is an o-ring 13251-15010, and the actual fibre gasket on the top side is 13258-15010. 8)

If I can get my hands on a new one for a sample, I will find a way to get them made.

My Cobra 34mm kit is 99% finished, and I would like to offer gaskets with the kit.

Ian,

I sent you an e-mail at your website address... :)

It has the float settings that you are after as well.

As an idea why not call Cometic, they may be willing to make some for you by using a perfect example to copy from. Since they are NLA, a run of 20 or so for example wont be too difficult to sell the extras on Ebay. http://www.cometic.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
