Suzuki T500 Big End Baaring width

Post by Vintageman »

Does anyone know what the width of a T500 Big End Bearing is? (Cage length I suppose is what to call it)

I don't have one loose for a T500 that I can measure.

I am concerned it is not the same length as the GT750 BE which I some loose and can check.

I mean the GT750 Rod is designed to slide side to side on BE where as the T500 is not.

So to be sure can someone measure a T500 BE cage length/width please if they have one?

Thanks

I don't have a bearing to measure, but you comments about the floating GT750 crank reminded me that on a 750 after K, they used what are basically two thick washers with the same ID and OD and the big end bearing to take up the end play.

24 / 30 / 20, the same measure than a 750, you can do with 750 BE

750 is nominally 20mm wide and the big end is 21mm wide. I don't have a 500 rod or big end to measure.

What is the center to center distance on a 500? Is it 135 or 136? I have seen both dimensions somewhere. And what is the 750 ctr to ctr?

I have a new NOS T500 rod it is 136 mm c to c but will check again

I have GT750M BEs returned to me after having crank rebuild and will measure cage length

I have no T500 BE loose I can measure.

DinoGt I assume you do have true OEM T500 BE cage loose and you have just measured it. 100% positive the cage length is 22 mm? how long is the needle?

It just seams to me the BE for GT750 would have longer cage and/or longer needle rollers for the rod can slide side to side at Big end and piston side held still,. Unlike T500?

Looks like you and Tz375 (not clear what is 21mm or 20 mm in your reply Tz) differ a bit on GT750 bearing cage length or I am confused again

Sorry about the confusion there. On a GT750, the width of the con rod at the big end is 21mm. The width of the big end bearing cage is 20mm

The 750 uses a washer either side of the big end bearing to take up the extra width. Normal big end thrust washers are the same size as the big end eye of the con rod so they take side thrusts from the rod. On the 750 they are 24*29 so they sit on the big end pin and the con rod can slide from side to side without touching them.

Here's one that was stripped a while back for parts. The end washers are tied to the big ends and you can see what they look like.

Dinogt

Are you sure the BE cage is 22mm long not 20mm?

Tz.

Thanks for clarifying... I 'll have the data I promised shortly and maybe I'll take a pic with the GT750 BE in the T500 rod

From GT750 page = 09263-24007 is the BE part#

Now if you type just the part# into the Partzilla you get this wild superceed list of bearings

Is not xx19 like original T500 style. And the latest 0026 has many more rollers than xx07, which is one of DinoGt’s complaint about the GT750 versus the T500 EOM Be (has more rollers)

on a 500 T or 750 GT, BE is 22mm large (sure).
on a 500T BE bearing is 22 large
Prehaps there is a little frog in my brain, but if 250 RM same as 750, BE Bering is 20mm large.

Oh yes, after see the tz375 photo, i was missing the large washers... on a 750 GT BE Bearing is less than 22mm, surely 20mm
Do with new origin Suzuki or Prox, not old stock, they are better, more pins and different cage.

Dinogt,

I am not asking how wide the rod is at the big end (~22mm I just measured one again).

I am asking how long the T500 OEM big end needle bearing is just to ensure I am 100% clear what I am asking

So are you saying the bearing cage is 22mm long on T500 just like the rod width?

Can you take pic?

Note that the T500 SE rod width is 22mm and there the is no oil notch on rod sides where it thrust piston side to side... so that SE cage is probably ~22mm wide as well as the rod.

The T500 rod BE has those two notches on either thrust side of casting that drops the width down to ~20mm. not sure a 22mm cage makes sense given the rod BE width drops due to those casting oil notches both sides of rod at BE ?

What Prox BE part# do you use for T500 please.

I want to get a T500 crank rebuilt and want the best possible modern BE bearing.

My used 1975 GT750 BE cage measures ~19.7 mm

Tz here is a NOS T500 rod C to C. This is the early # that ends with 15000 if I recall

4.3125" (inside BE to SE length) + .903" (SE dia)/2 + 1.181"(BE dia) /2 = 5.3545" = 136.00mm

This was done use calipers

Big end bearing pins 500gt are 15.8mm.
I mistake with prox BE bearing, only for 750GT 24/30/20 because I don't do with origin con rod since many years.

so t500 and gt750 BE not the same width. Do we agree?

T500 is 22m wide and GT750 20mm wide.

I was told by two know crank rebuilders they have used gt750 BE on t500. I suppose it works, but dang I would not have piece of mind knowing not the same...

anybody know where to get good performance aftermarket 24/30/22 BE for T500?

I start looking too
