Was wondering about that too, so I googled it & got"
"Compression releases are kinda rare but we got 'em. They are 'engine brakes' used to slow two-stroke bikes without locking up the brakes and losing control. Use them for motocross, enduro but most particularly flat track. Setting up for a corner is easier with a release-use it right before you pitch it over to scuff off speed. ..."
