Crazy Wiring

Post by dans6887 »

My Gt380 is being weird. It runs great and all the lights work but when I turn on the high beam, all the lights (including the panel light, neutral light, and brake light) stop working. I recently had to change the key switch because I lost the original key. I wired everything the same and then this happens. Could someone entreat the motorcycle gods and provide some insight to this issue?

I think it could be the switch..... ( but what do I know ) I think there's 4 wires,? Is It an original Suzuki switch or reproduction switch? There was a batch of reproduction ignition switches, that could catch fire. ( think it was the red / orange wire was too thin ) I would ask a mate, to try his switch, off his same model bike, on your bike, & yours on his, to see if it is the switch, and if it is, there's your problem solved.. get your money back, ( faulty ) and look for another switch......

You're all at least half right. I had a friend look at the wiring and the switch and he had a hard time figuring out what the problem was. He couldn't find anything wrong with the wiring at all and when he took the switch off he had a huge EUREKA! moment.
You see neither of us realized there are supposed to be 3 switches. One for turn signals, one for high beam and low beam, and one for on / off. The guy I bought the bike from must have broken the switches for the turn signals and Hi /Lo beams because the only switch there is the on / off which I mistook for the hi / lo. Anyways I have a new switch on the way and am now a little wiser for it.
