Are all vintage used part sellers on crack ?
Searching for a stator for my Suzuki Gs. Came across this gem that appears to have been used to brand cattle judging by how much the windings are burned. I would love to be able to make the decisions for EBay for one day in reference to lifetime bands. Yeah, you'll sell that. When remanufactured ones sell for $60.

Oh c'mon. He describes it as 'good shape'
That's true, the shape is ok, the colour however, is another matter!
I've noticed that lots of parts sellers seem to be of similar mind(less)!

Think of how stupid the average person is, then realise that half of them are more stupid than that.

These bikes are typically pretty durable but are known for some electrical problems.
So I wouldn’t buy a used stator as these are a known problem spot.
Rectifier/regulators are another problem spot.
Good modern aftermarket replacements are available for both.
There’s lots of useful info on the GS forum — definitely worth joining if you haven’t.

When looking for parts for my T, I often find dealers selling used parts for more than new ones, much more!

You're right jabcb, GS's are durable and problematic electric wise. I was close to giving up on this bike a couple times. But, I like it too much. In my eyes, they are fantastic bikes. Strangely, parts are much harder to come by than the older GT's. No way, would I buy a used stator. As long as, remanufactured ones are available. Which they are. Stators, are the likely culprit of why most of those bikes were junked in the first place. Some people don't know how or don't care to fix it.

The hot ticket probably is to get either a Rick’s Motorsport or ElectroSport stator, and Shindengen SH775 series R/R.

OK, that's got to be the worst one I ever saw. Must have been run over by a truck.

Awww... That will buff right out. A little wax, some Mother's Chrome Polish, and maybe some keyster carb kits, on the road in no time.

'numbers match' but no documents, so what do the numbers actually match then?
I doubt if there's anything at all that's any good on that.
Including the truck it's sat in, possibly.

Re: Are all vintage used part sellers on crack ?
Maybe the high prices are due to the amount of "Born Again" bikers that pay too much for parts in the first place. IMO, compared to say...15 to 20 years ago...a lot more people are buying bikes to fulfill a childhood dream, they don't necessarily want to ride them.......and would probably kill themselves if they did.....it's just something they always wanted and now they're gettting on and are financially better off, they go for it. You can't blame them I guess but they do tend to pay too much for parts and make it harder for those that have always had bikes to keep theirs on the road. The only option to save money restoring an older bike is to pick a model that wasn't a "poster bike" back in the day. But who wants to restore a Honda?
Does that make sense? Or am I talking billhooks?

Re: Are all vintage used part sellers on crack ?
Not 'billhooks' at all.
But I (re)started with 550s nearly 5 years ago and picked the first bike up (very poor condition, but more or less complete) for just over £600. Now it seems to be £1500 for a sh1tter.
They weren't particularly a poster bike back then - I had what I believe to be the first in the North of England back in August 1972 - and they were never considered a racing bike as they were giving 200ccs away to the 750s and that's the class they would have been in.
BUT the GT750s are so OTT pricewise nowadays, that folks are going for the smaller triples and twins, so they're getting expensive too.
That price bandwagon just keeps rolling.
